So it begins.

I got my hands on a '68 Valiant VE Regal about 12months ago now which has been sitting in my garage, waiting. It is an incredibly straight near zero rust free car with running gear that may as well not be there - the brakes don't even work.

A recent trip to Tamworth with a good mate for all things related to cars has inspired me to get a move on with this restoration.

Did I mention that this VE is 'Iris Yellow'? I'd never seen one in that colour prior and was initially going to re-spray it 'Alpine White'. A few drinks later I was convinced, nearly, to leave it the original colour and instead try and bring it out via another means.

The hunt for a set of rims began and this week is finished - a set of US Hustler's. All it needs now is a good clean up, a set of Redline tyres and the aesthetics are nearly there.

Mechanical building will start soon ...

Motorclassica 2010

These were the only shots worth posting from Motorclassica. I hadn't taken photos for ages, and the lighting the Melbourne Exhbition Building isn't the best when you don't have a lense that has an F low stop enough, or, you forgot your external flash. Mine was both.

My '32 Ford : Step One

After some months of searching I've finally laid my hands on some original '32 Ford rails. Yes, they are in six pieces, but that doesnt matter at all ...

By the end I hope to have something resembling the last photo here.

The rear spreader bar section is a replacement (good quality) section, and the front spreader is not original, looks like a home job. Bronzing for various repairs are clear but the most important part is; numbering is partially visible, and the original riveting for the bump stops is in place. All the factory lines are still present, though these rails will need to go into a jig to be re-joined prior to engineering inspection.

This is going to be a very exciting and time consuming project!

Figaro! aka Bek's car

Every so often something comes along that on first look you know was built especially for one person. In this case it's a car by the name of Figaro. A mate of mine actually spotted this exact car the other week and we've been quietly obsessed with them ever since.

The Nissan Figaro, built in 1990, is a small retro styled car produced by their special projects group, Pike Factory. It has all the mod cons from the time of manufacture but with styling from the 60's.

Full leather interior, CD player, a roof that folds into the boot and a 1.0litre turbo-charged engine.

These things are rad.

Released in four colors, one for each season, a limited run of only 22,000 was produced.

Unfortunatly these were superseeded by the Micra ...

'Goat Dung' in Italian

Snapped this great example of a Ford Cortina MK I on the way back from the supermarket today.

The Cortina was named after the Italian winter resort 'Cortina di Ampezzo', where the 1956 Winter Olympics were held. Apparently Ford's Chairman, Patrick Hennessey, had suggested the name 'Caprino' for the car, but this was abandoned when it was discovered that the word meant 'goat dung' in Italian.

Assembled locally in Australia but of British origin, the Cortina sold well here due largely to it's success in the Armstrong 500 at Bathurst where the Cortina GT won the flag in '63 and '64.
